Pastel Collision School of Pop

Wherever you go, take me with you – the video

August 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Shot on Super 8 at the English seaside (Herne Bay, to be exact) with extra bits shot of us miming in some kind of corn field while wearing summer dresses and stripey tops? How indie do you want?

So this is the video for the single we did as Pastel Collision, produced by Mike Jones of Voice of the Beehive (who later produced our album as Kaleida, too).

If you are in any way a follower of our group(s) but never even knew we had made promo videos, well I guess that denotes the flip-side of being independent and working with little labels and so on. However indie pop you are, you don’t want to be 100 per cent underground; only, possibly, around 95 per cent. You don’t want your summer single released in September and you don’t want… ah, let me tell you all about this in another post.

Anyways, this was directed by Mike Hodgkinson, a pal of ours who – I realise now – was the spit (ish) of 70s TV tough guy Lewis Collins. He also did one for our song, Come out of the rain, shot in Madrid, which I will upload at some point.

Mike later moved to LA where he got some attention (and 85,000 youtube hits!) for directing the first pop video entirely on a mobile phone. You can see that video – for a solo single by the fellow who used to be in the Catherine Wheel – right here

Mike gives an interview about his video and film-making, including talking about our vid, right here.

And you can see that I was right about Lewis Collins, too.

My semi-realistic hope is that Mike keeps on keeping on with his moves towards making it in, or near, Hollywood and finds 100k in his budget for me to provide two minutes of music for one of his films at some point between the next 40 minutes and 20 years.

What, I ask not for the first time, are the chances?
